The following presentation includes *audio* to introduce the essential practices for disciplinary literacies as recommended by the General Education Leadership Network as part of a large-scale literacy development effort underway across the state of Michigan. After working through the Prezi, download the PDF that best aligns to your content area to review the instructional recommendations provided. These will form the basis for our work throughout this course.

Applying the recommendations
After reviewing the appropriate materials for your discipline, write a response that addresses the following:
1) Summarize what disciplinary literacy means for your content area IN YOUR OWN WORDS. You don't need to include all of the dimensions discussed in this module--just hit the high points that most resonate with you.
2) Identify 1-2 goals for what you hope to learn or develop throughout this course in relation to your discipline.
3) List 1-2 questions or concerns you have for capitalizing on disciplinary literacies within your instructional planning and teaching.
When finished, share your response to the Forum on the course Canvas site.
