You will need a copy of Jennifer Serravallo's (2014) The Literacy Teacher's Playbook: Grades 3-6 to complete this module. Pay close attention to how Serravallo describes the analysis frame and provides “look-fors” to focus your attention. For each sample she also provides a summary of what she noticed in that particular piece of student work. Comparing her findings to your initial thoughts will provide insights into the types of wonderings you might uncover in the future. Keep in mind, as Serravallo emphasizes throughout her book, you should be leery of drawing too many conclusions based on one piece of student evidence. Rather than conclusions, focus on identifying wonderings or areas that you can continue to follow-up on when working with this student in the future. Also, consider what types of evidence would be helpful to better contextualize or interpret the evidence she presents. What kinds of assessments would you want to give students in order to develop a more thorough understanding of what they know and can do?
